MANILA — Tropical cyclone Fung-wong intensified further on Friday as it moved closer to the boundary of the Philippine area of responsibility, PAGASA said.
The state weather bureau said Fung-wong could enter the PAR late Friday or early Saturday and would be given the local name Uwan.
At 10 a.m. Friday, Fung-wong was located 1,315 km east of Eastern Visayas. It was packing winds of 100 kilometers per hour and up to 125 kph gusts. It was moving west northwestward at 20 kph.
Uwan may reach super typhoon strength by late Saturday or early Sunday, off Bicol Region.
