Typhoon Gorio Ascends, Tracking Westward Toward Taiwan

Gorio has intensified into a typhoon and is now packing winds of 120 kph and gusts of up to 150 kph, weather bureau PAGASA said.

At 4 a.m. Tuesday, Typhoon Gorio was located 745 km east of Itbayat, Batanes. It is moving westward at 25 kph.

Gorio will keep its strength prior to its landfall over Taiwan on Wednesday afternoon. It may exit the Philippine area of responsibility in the evening.

A further southward shift in the track may lead to the raising of signal in Extreme Northern Luzon.

Although not enhanced by Gorio, the southwest monsoon or Habagat will bring scattered rains in MIMAROPA, Western Visayas. Negros Island Region, and Zamboanga Peninsula this Tuesday.

Flooding and landslides may be possible during occasions of heavy or prolonged rainfall.
